The Law Program | First-Year Options
Glendale University College of Law offers three first-year law programs with enrollment opportunities in fall, spring and summer.
Learning to incorporate the demands of legal education with the responsibilities of everyday life makes the first year of law school especially challenging. To offer students the best possible chance of success during this transition, three first-year programs were created. Each of the three options provides the opportunity for students to carry a lighter course load in the first year of studies.
Option I – Fall Enrollment:
A non-traditional first-year program
- Attend class three nights per week for the first year instead of the traditional four.
- Have nine months to master the subjects of Torts and Contracts.
- Complete the first year of law school in the Summer Criminal Law Program.

Option II – The Spring Torts Program:
The lightest first-year course load available
- Attend class an average of two nights per week the entire first year.
- Study only one subject, Torts, two nights per week for the first two quarters.
- Never have two finals in the same quarter and have only one final during the last quarter of the first year.
- Competitive advantage; complete an entire subject before fall students enroll.

The Spring Torts Program results in a lighter first-year course load by distributing the 29 required units over five quarters. This does not delay graduation!
Option III – Summer Criminal Law Program:
A focused study of criminal law
- Attend class three nights per week for the first year instead of the traditional four.
- Study only criminal law three nights per week during the summer quarter.
- Criminal Law Professors typically include a Deputy District Attorney, Assistant United States Attorney or retired Superior Court Judge.
- Competitive advantage; complete an entire subject before fall students enroll.
