Location
The City of Glendale enjoys the reputation of being one of the largest financial centers in the state, and one of the cleanest and safest business districts in the greater Los Angeles area.
Since 1970, GUCL has occupied a two-story, 20,000 square foot brick building in the City of Glendale. Built in 1941 by the County of Los Angeles, the first floor was a division of the Los Angeles County Health Department and the second floor was the first formal Los Angeles County Courthouse in Glendale. Considerable renovations and the building’s 1940’s charm create a pleasant, comfortable learning environment.
The City of Glendale was chosen for the law school because of its central location. The campus is 15 minutes by freeway from downtown Los Angeles, and from the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys. The school is two blocks away from Glendale City Hall and Civic Center, the Glendale Police station, and a Los Angeles County Superior Court House.
The law school is within walking distance of various restaurants as well as a multitude of conveniences enjoyed regularly by the students including:
- Bank of America
- Barnes & Noble
- Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf
- Long’s Drugs
- Nordstrom Rack
- Ralphs
- Staples
- Starbucks
- Trader Joe’s
- Verizon Wireless
- Washington Mutual Bank
- Whole Foods Market
Resources
Law Library & Computer Lab
A center for legal research, the library is designed to serve students, faculty and alumni.
Housing a 40,000 volume collection, the library contains state and federal primary sources of law, periodicals, and a well-developed collection of research aids and practice materials.
Computer-assisted legal research is available to students as an integral part of the library resources. Students receive individual passwords to web-based LEXIS-NEXIS legal database. The law school’s computer lab is equipped with a high-speed internet connection allowing efficient access to on-line legal resources.
Computer-based Testing
SofTest is a secure testing program created by ExamSoft Worldwide. After downloading the program from the ExamSoft website and paying a small licensing fee, students may use a personal notebook computer or a desktop GUCL lab computer to type their exams.
The State Bar of California uses SofTest when administering the California Bar Exam so having the opportunity to become familiar with the program while in law school is advantageous.
Students using personal computers are responsible for correct installation of software and proper operation of their hardware.
Bookstore
The law school operates an on-campus bookstore for the convenience of its students. The bookstore carries all course-required material including casebooks, hornbooks, textbooks, law dictionaries, and legal writing and research guides from prominent legal publishing houses. A wide selection of popular study aids and Glendale University College of Law logo items are also available in the bookstore.
